Tooting Bec – The Final Fixture
The final fixture of the South London Athletics Network 2012
Super 8 athletics League took place at Tooting Bec on Sunday
September 16th the home track of Herne Hill Harriers.
Super8
Athletics is built around 8 events (4 track & 4 field) and 2
relays. Teams are made up of 8 boys & 8 girls with each athlete
doing at least one track event, one field event and a relay.
107 athletes competed from 4 clubs within the network. It what
has become a regular feature of this competition many of the
athletes were experiencing organised competition for the first
time. Herne Hill Harriers took advantage of home advantage with
a strong display in both team competitions. They did not have it
all their own way though, with strong team performances from
Belgrave Harriers in the Under 15’s competition and Sutton &
District in the Under 13’s competition keeping pace with Herne
Hill Harriers for most of the competition.
In the end though Herne Hill proved too strong and completed a
dominated season for them in the league which can only bode well
for their squad entering the winter Sportshall and Cross Country
competitions.

Individual competition
The South London Athletics Network Super 8 competition also
rewards outstanding individual performance. This is done by the
athletes scoring points not only for their teams but by taking
the best score from an athlete’s best track event and the best
score from the their field event. The best individual’s scores
are listed below.
The Under 15 boys competition could not have been closer with
only one point separating the first two athletes. In terms of
individual excellence the last fixture in the league proved to
be the best. Garfiled Francis (Herne Hill Harriers) prevailed
by the narrowest of margins on the back of a 12.7 100m and a
very impressive 5m 42cm in the Long Jump which scored 82 points.
Josiah Francis (South London Harriers) came a close second with
a classy 154 points with a 12.1 100m and 1m 50cm in the High
Jump. Antoino Miresse (Sutton & District) completed the podium
with a 12.7 100m and a 9m 24cm Shot Put.
The girls Under 15’s competition was no less competitive with
Catriona McSorley (Herne Hill Harriers) winner from the first
fixture again battling with Tabitah Lambe (Sutton & District AC)
winner from the second fixture. In the final fixture Tabitah
completed a 10 point victory with 7m 58cm in he shot and a 44.0
in the 300m. Catriona McSorley was her usual consistent self
with her top scores coming from a 12.4 75m Hurdles and a 1m 15cm
High Jump. In third place was the equally impressive Carla
Doukrou with a 47.3 300m and an excellent 4m 21cm Long Jump.

South London Athletics Network 2012 Super 8 Athletics League
Sutton Arena – The 2nd Fixture
The second fixture of the South London Athletics Network 2012
Super 8 athletics League took place at Sutton Arena on Sunday
August 19th the home track of Sutton & District AC.
Super8
Athletics is built around 8 events (4 track & 4 field) and 2

doing at least one track event, one field event and a relay.
82 athletes competed from 4 clubs within the network, it what
has become a regular feature of this competition many of the
athletes were experiencing organised competition for the first
time. Herne Hill Harriers as always brought a strong team and
were looking good to make amends for missing out on the Under
13’s team honors in the first fixture at Battersea Park. They
were denied though by an inspired display by host club Sutton &
District AC who prevailed by just 40 points. It was a real team
effort with their points evenly spread amongst their team
members. South London Harriers finished a strong 3rd
and as always were well team managed on the day by tireless Anne
Roden who even found time to officiate the Long Jump
competition.
In the Under 15’s competition Herne Hill Harriers once again
dominated. Over the 2 years of the competition they remain
unbeaten. They simply dominated most of the events with host
club Sutton & District in a distant 2nd.

came a close second and improved on his score from the first
fixture with 151 pts. The girls Under 15’s competition was no
less competitive with Catriona McSorley winner from the first
fixture being overhauled by Tabitah Lambe from host club Sutton
& District AC who threw the shot an impressive 7m 92cm which
scored slightly higher than the equally impressive 1.35 in the
high jump and ran 13.4 in the hurdles. Could we have found the
new Jessica Ennis. Tabitah was one of the few athletes to break

The all Conquering Herne Hill Harriers under 13 & 15 Super 8
Team
South London Athletics Network 2012 Super 8 League.
The first fixture of the South London Athletics Network 2012
Super 8 athletics League took place at Battersea Park on
Wednesday July 18th the home track of Belgrave
Harriers.
Super8, is built around 8 events (4
track & 4 field) and 2 relays. Teams are made up of 8 boys & 8
girls with each athlete doing one track event, one field event
and a relay.
60 athletes competed on the night from 4 clubs within the
network. It was great to see many athletes experiencing
competition for the first time. Herne Hill Harriers brought a
strong team and were looking good to continue their dominance
from last year in the Under 13’s competition. Belgrave Harriers
though were not to be denied on home turf and due to sheer
numbers prevailed in the team competition but it was close! A
great result that is a good reward for the hard work being put
into coaching the juniors at Belgrave Harriers led by Bob
Bridges and superbly supported by Charlie Dickenson, Chris
Husbands and Andrea Lynch. Hercules Wimbledon AC were rewarded
for bringing a strong boys squad with a 3rd place
finish on the night.
In the Under 15’s competition Herne Hill Harriers got the win
they came for with a commanding team performance and showed why
they are one of the top junior’s squads in the South of England
this time relegating Belgrave into second and Croydon Harriers
who had made the difficult travel across London into 3rd
place.

South London Athletics Network Super 8 Final fixture.
The final fixture of the South London Athletics Network took
place at Sutton Arena on Wednesday July 13th the home
of Sutton & District AC.
Super8, is built around 8 events (4
track & 4 field) and 2 relays. Teams are made up of 8 boys & 8
girls with each athlete doing one track event, one field event
and a relay.
110 athletes competed on the night from all 6 clubs within the
network. It was great to see so many athletes experiencing
competition for the first time. After Herne Hill Harriers
dominance in the first fixture and South London Harriers
dominance in the second fixture the third fixture promised to be
a hard fought battle. We were not to be disappointed! South
London Harriers prevailed in the under 15 competition and their
win on the night resulted in them taking the overall league
title. The home team Sutton broke the South London/Herne Hill
cartel by stealing 2nd on the night on the back of a
strong overall team performance.
