South London Athletics Network - host 2012 London Team Quadkids
Under 11’s Championships
The South London Athletics Network hosted the London Quadkids
Team Championships at Sutton Arena the home of Sutton and
District Athletic Club in bright winter sunshine and thankfully
no rain!
QuadKids Clubs promotes competition in athletics clubs throughout England
with inter and intra club competitions and athletic network
leagues and events. Targeting under 9, 11 and 13 age groups this
is a perfect stepping stone encompassing all the key aspects of
athletics; endurance, speed, agility and strength.
90 athletes competed from 6 clubs South London Harriers, Herne
Hill Harriers, Bee’s Academy, Sutton & District Athletic Club,
Croydon Harriers and Highgate Harriers. For many of the athletes
this was the first time competing in an organised athletic
competition. For others it was the first time they have had the
chance to compete in a team based competition.
The competition on the day was fierce with the lead changing
hands many times during the competition between Herne Hill
Harriers, Croydon Harriers and the Bee’s Academy. The Bee’s
Academy held a small advantage going into the final event the
600m but a strong performance from the Herne Hill team during
the endurance event overhauled that advantage to give them the
London Title on the day. The Bee’s Academy held on for a strong
2nd place with Highgate Harriers turning around a
100+ deficit on Croydon Harriers into the narrow 1 point victory
and the bronze medal position and reward for making the long
trek from North London.
Herne Hill and South London showed the growing strength of their
junior sections by fielding a staggering 4 teams each on the
day. This is testament to the hard work put in by Steve Bosley (HHH)
and Anne Roden (SLH). Watch this space over the going years!

Individual
competition
The Quadkids competition also rewards outstanding individual
performance. This is done by the athletes scoring points not
only for their teams but by the athlete scoring points over the
four disciplines that is then added together to give an overall
individual score.
The Boy’s competition was a tight affair and just like the team
competition came down to the 600m. LJ Wright from the Bee’s
Academy held a 6 point lead over Reben Rea from Herne Hill
Harriers going into the final event. A fantastic 600m from Reben
though allowed him to pip LJ to the individual title. They were
closely followed by Jacob Devereux from Croydon Harriers who
scored consistently throughout the competition.
The Girl’s competition was dominated by Ore Adamson (Herne Hill
Harriers) who scored so heavily that she beat all but one of the
boys on the day! She scored over 60 points in the 3 events, the
standing long jump, 75 sprint and her best event the 600m run.
Kayla Bowley Croydon Harriers finished 2nd on the day
on the back of some impressive displays in the running events.
In 3rd place was Ella Price (South London Harriers)
who was the most consistent athlete in the competition by
scoring over 40 points in all four of her events.

Ice does
not stop South London Quad Kids
Youngsters

and parents set about breaking up and clearing the ice and a

atmosphere and a quick revamp of the schedule ensuring that the
field events went first enabled the event to catch up on time

Latifi of Herne Hill Harriers who threw the vortex javelin with

resulted in the first ever tie in a SLAN Quadkids event., Kian
Gray and Chi Balamwezi could not be separated when the scores
were totalled up both being credited with 182 points over the
